Professional Artist

Mon Jun 12, 2006, 6:47 AM
One of my friends and co-workers and Wal-mart brought it to my attention that I was getting paid my hourly wages to paint a mural in the associate lounge. Getting paid hourly for my artistic ability makes me a professional artist. I was doubtful of her perception of events until she pointed out that I could now add it to my resume. How wonderful is that? I love it!

Someone said to me recently that I put too much into "being an artist." Their perception of the situation is that I want everyone to look at me and go, "Look at Angel, she's an 'artist'." This person's perception of the situation upset me greatly until I realized why a person would think such a way. My whole life the only constant has been art. As a child I did not go outside and play unless my mother made me. I would sit inside all day long drawing, coloring, painting, making collages, etc. My whole life I've been the one friends and family have come to in order to get help with anything artistic or creative. It was my work that was used as an example in art class. It was me that my co-workers elected to paint the mural in the lounge. When my conservative christian republican family became aware of my interest in becomming a tattoo artist, they supported it. Not because of their love of the industry but because Angel as a professional artist just seemed right to them. So in retort to the comment made; I do not talk about art to gain acceptance. Often art is the only thing I care to talk about or that holds my interest. I do not say that I am an artist to convince people. It was countless people over many years that convinced me.

Hello, my name is Angel Mae Glutz. I am an artist!
